Supplement Plan A

Medigap Plan A (otherwise known as Supplement Plan A) is the most basic supplement plan. The following expenses are covered by Plan A at 100%:

  • Medicare Part A coinsurance and hospital costs (Up to an additional 365 days after Medicare benefits are used)

  • Medicare Part B coinsurance or copayment

  • Blood (First 3 pints)

  • Part A Hospice care coinsurance or copayment

What is not covered under Medigap Plan A

  • Skilled nursing facility care coinsurance

  • Medicare Part A deductible

  • Medicare Part B deductible

  • Medicare Part B excess charges

  • Foreign travel emergency (Up to plan limits)

Who is eligible for Medigap Plan A


You are eligible for Medigap Plan A if:

  • You are turning 65 and are in your open enrollment period.

You are on disability and therefore enrolled into Medicare early. However, these plans are much costlier if you purchase it under the age of 65. Therefore, if you are on disability and under the age of 65, it’s usually advisable to enroll into a Medicare Advantage plan, which is the same cost before you turn 65 as it is after you turn 65.
